Today I just wanted to bring up the how easy it is to have your own backyard putting green. Not everyone gets the chance to live backed up to a beautiful golf course or has a membership to an exclusive golf course, but anyone could have their very own putting green in their backyard if they chose.
One of the big questions that comes up when building a backyard putting green is whether is should be a true bent grass green or if it should be made from artificial materials.
I for one would choose the fake grass route for a few reasons.
First, my local climate has the full four seasons, which means our grass is dormant for half the year and not a very good quality to play on in the fall and winter. That’s exactly the time period that I’d like to be practicing so I can show up in spring with an improved game.
Second, I like to live as much of a low maintenance lifestyle as possible, which means I want to be playing golf and not mowing and flattening my private green all the time. It might just be me but all I want to do is play, and leave the maintenance to others.
The next big decision for your putting green is who will install it.
I actually do like the idea of a do-it-yourself green because I like to save money and I don’t mind doing a little work as long as I don’t constantly have to worry about it after its complete. Many of the materials to build your private putting green are modular, so you can fit the pieces just how you want them and integrate the new green into your backyard easily.
Hopefully, this will give you a little insight into building your own backyard putting green. Let me know if there are any questions and your experience with having a putting green in your backyard.
